KpopCompass is, and will remain, free for everyone to read. Producing clear, well-researched guides takes time, and advertising is what keeps the site running without charging our readers. This page explains, honestly and in plain English, how that works.
How the site is funded
KpopCompass is supported by advertising. We display ads through Google AdSense, an advertising network operated by Google. When you visit a page, Google and its partners may show ads in the spaces set aside for them. These ads are served by third parties, not by us, which means we do not hand-pick or control the specific ads that appear to you on any given visit. The ads you see are chosen automatically by the advertising system, and they can vary from person to person and from day to day.
Ads are labelled
Advertising on KpopCompass is placed in clearly defined areas and is served by third-party networks. We aim to keep advertising visually distinct from our guides so that you can always tell the difference between our editorial writing and a paid advertisement. If you would like to know more about how ad personalisation works — or how to limit it — please see our Privacy Policy, which explains the cookies involved and how to opt out of personalised advertising through your Google Ads Settings.
Editorial independence
This is the part that matters most to us: advertising does not influence what we write. Our guides about K-pop history, fan culture, the industry and the Korean language are researched and written independently. We do not let advertisers, ad performance, or the prospect of revenue shape our opinions, our recommendations, or the facts we present. An advertiser appearing on a page is not an endorsement by us, and we are not endorsed by them in return.
Affiliate links
At present, KpopCompass focuses on educational content rather than selling products. If we ever include affiliate links — that is, links where we might earn a small commission if you make a purchase, at no extra cost to you — we will tell you clearly. Such links will be disclosed and marked on the relevant page so that you always know when one is present. Even then, any product mentioned would be included because we genuinely think it is useful to readers, not simply because a commission is attached.
Independent and unaffiliated
KpopCompass is an independent fan guide. We are not sponsored by, affiliated with, or endorsed by any K-pop company, agency, label, artist or platform. The names, groups and brands we write about belong to their respective owners and are mentioned purely for informational and educational reasons. Nothing on this site should be read as official communication from any agency or artist.
